  I've never had a worker's Comp reason to come here. I have had medical problems since I was born though so when I moved to a new city I needed a clinic with flexible hours and that had a rehab center so I could maintain care of my triple scoliosis. I have avoided harrington rods and continue to avoid them. Through my pregnancy the rehab center kept my spine in good health. I hired this clinic and Dr. Helsten to be my new PCP when we moved to Denton in 2005. I never regretted it. This clinic has seen me at my best and my worst. Dr. Helsten has saved my husbands life when he detected appendicitis that didn't show with the typical symptoms and was about to rupture. and mine when I had a major artery that was completely occluded. I had been having odd chronic symptoms for a while after delivering my first born in 2004 and Helsten screened me for Lupus after I was established with him to figure out why I kept coming in with chronic joint pain/stiffness rashes an fevers when it was in the early stages. A lot of clinics just write scripts and don't bother finding out why you are having so many issues. My lupus was in early stages and I got treatment with a rheumatologist. While the Lupus did eventually cause life threatening complications - those complications probably would have killed me if I didn't already have specialists thanks to Helsten's care and the foresight to do basic screening. He doesn't know a lot about autoimmune conditions but was smart enough to screen for them. A lot of PCP's miss stuff like this and my life was spared multiple times from those complications because the specialists knew what to look for because of how Lupus can affect the body. Had we not found out I had Lupus I would have been written off as a psych patient as I had been many times before until it was discovered I had systemic lupus. Helsten helped me with the debilitating side effects of lupus which kept me working 7 years longer than I was expected to with Systemic Lupus. While many of my specialists were pushing me to go on disability I wanted to work as long as I could and he helped me with that. I even went to college full time for a while and worked full time and managed the Lupus well for 2 years. Many years later after Lupus progressed I finally bit the dust and retired. While I am now retired, he still keeps me well so I can have a decent quality of life so I can take care of my kids and stay as well as possible as we hope this time period of disability I can push my disease into remission. I am a nervous patient due to my history in the medical system stretching back into childhood but he is so calm and has such good bedside manners that my medical PTSD does not affect me at this clinic. The staff is awesome and while I am often embarrassed to have to be a frequent flyer at the clinic, no one treats me poorly - they treat me like family and are very compassionate, the Med Techs always make me smile or laugh. It is easy to feel like family here after a while. I also like that the medical staff is careful not to over medicate their patients. They take the time to educate you on ways to help yourself. On complicated matters requiring specialists, they're not afraid to tell you that they don't know and refer you out if needed they don't just guess or have ego issues like some clinics and risk treating you incorrectly. I trust this office implicitly with my primary care and they include you as a part of the team in your care. They have an incredible physical therapy center and their PT techs are very kind, patient, caring and educate you on ways you can improve your stamina and rehab an injury at home. In other words, this isn't just a money hungry clinic - they truly care about their patients well being. I did use the clinic when I had an automobile accident where a utility truck backed into me and they handled my claim seamlessly and was quick to get the soft tissue injuries cared for so that I missed minimal work. They took care of all of the claims and got me back on my feet and lowered my stress through it all.
